Why I Started DOPI
If you’re wondering whether I skied straight off the runway in a long puffer coat and oversized white mittens better suited for an arctic expedition—yes, yes I did. And if you’re also wondering whether I had ever skied before this moment, the answer is a firm no.
Skiing had been on my “one day” list for years, and then, at 31, I woke up and decided that this was the day. No planning, no overthinking—just me, my very fashionable but highly impractical mittens, and a ski resort that had no idea what it was in for. I went alone, ready to face the slopes with zero experience, only to find out that my instructor—a much more seasoned and wise skier—had actually never touched a pair of skis herself until she was in her 30s. We bonded instantly.
I remember the crisp air biting at my cheeks as I stood at the top of a ski slope, peering down at two distinct trails. One was well-trodden but steep, while the other seemed smoother yet curved out of sight. The choice was mine—each path promising its own challenges and rewards. That moment encapsulated what life often feels like: we’re all navigating unknown terrain, weighing risks, and choosing which way forward.
Growing up, my own path was far from traditional. I earned my GED when others were finishing high school. Determined to change my circumstances, I put myself through community college and then university, juggling work and studies. Ultimately, my drive led me to Johns Hopkins University, where I earned a Master’s in Public Management—a milestone I’m incredibly proud of.
After finishing school, I ventured into corporate America, where I gradually worked my way up in various roles. Along the way, I discovered firsthand how processes could be as hazardous as a poorly marked ski trail—leading to confusion, wasted resources, and a lot of frustrated people. I saw employees slip through cracks created by outdated workflows, businesses stumble due to compliance risks, and customers lose faith when interactions felt cumbersome.
I realized these “icy patches” weren’t personal failures; they stemmed from broken systems. Much like a hidden obstacle on a ski slope, inefficient processes can trip you up even when you’re doing your best. As I reflected on my own uphill battle—balancing work, school, and life—I felt compelled to help others navigate these challenges more effectively.
That’s when the idea for Digital Optimization and Process Improvement, LLC (DOPI) took shape. I wanted to create a trusted guide for organizations facing sharp turns and steep inclines. With DOPI, my mission is simple: smooth out the rough terrain so governments, businesses, and communities can move forward safely and efficiently.
How We Make the Journey Smoother
Skiing isn’t just about getting from the top of the mountain to the bottom—it’s about choosing the right path, adjusting to the conditions, and having the right support when things get tricky. The same applies to optimizing business processes, managing risks, and ensuring operational resilience.
At DOPI, our consulting practice specializes in Governance, Risk, Compliance (GRC), and Business Resiliency, ensuring organizations can anticipate risks, adapt efficiently, and sustain long-term success. Here’s how we guide them:
1. Thorough Assessment
Just like studying a trail map before you ski, we begin by taking a comprehensive look at your operations—governance structures, digital tools, compliance frameworks, and risk management processes. We identify pain points, potential risks, and areas for growth, always keeping your specific goals and resources in mind.
2. Strategic Planning
Armed with a clear understanding of the terrain, we develop a roadmap aligned with your unique objectives. We believe in collaboration: rather than prescribing solutions, we co-create them with you, ensuring that every strategy fits your organization’s culture and priorities.
3. Practical Implementation
A plan, no matter how well-designed, only works if it’s executed effectively. Think of us as your ski instructor—helping you integrate new governance models, refine compliance procedures, and execute risk mitigation strategies smoothly. We guide you around hidden obstacles, ensuring that your team is both prepared and confident.
4. Ongoing Optimization
Even when you’ve mastered the slopes, new challenges can appear—regulatory shifts, emerging cybersecurity threats, or new technologies that demand a different approach. That’s why we stay by your side, monitoring performance, making data-driven adjustments, and continuously optimizing your frameworks.
DOPI as a Venture Incubation Firm
But DOPI isn’t just about optimizing existing systems—we’re also building solutions where none exist.
At our core, DOPI is a Venture Incubation firm. What that means is that we identify societal issues, analyze the current systems and processes surrounding them, and then leverage technology—specifically through app development—to drive impactful change. The goal? To create solutions that eventually become standalone companies.
The first area we’re focusing on is the workforce, particularly blue-collar and service industry workers.
This led to the creation of our first venture: H2H.
H2H: A Workforce Solution for a Broken System
H2H is our B2B2C workforce platform, designed to bridge the gap between day laborers and employers in a way that promotes flexibility, efficiency, and economic empowerment.
- For businesses, H2H makes it easier than ever to find, hire, and manage workers—whether for short-term gigs or long-term employment.
- For individuals, it provides a reliable, transparent way to find work that fits their skills, schedule, and needs.
The goal of H2H is to address a critical workforce challenge and eventually spin off into its own company, making a lasting impact on the blue-collar and service industry sectors.
At DOPI, this is just the beginning. Our Venture Incubation model ensures that as we identify more societal gaps, we continue developing technology-driven solutions that change the way businesses, communities, and governments operate.
Why It Matters
Each process we optimize, each risk we mitigate, and each solution we incubate represents another chance to prevent people from slipping through the cracks.
- If you’re a government agency, we help you modernize workflows and compliance systems to improve public service delivery.
- If you’re a business, we strengthen your risk and governance frameworks so you can scale with confidence.
- If you’re a nonprofit or community organization, we help you operate more efficiently, so you can focus on your mission.
When I look back on my own journey—standing at the top of challenging slopes in life—I’m reminded that with the right preparation and guidance, we can navigate even the toughest trails.
If you’re at your own summit and wondering which path to take, DOPI is here to help you chart a course that leads to success.
